Behind the Veil

Summary: The niqab -- a face-covering veil worn by some Muslim women -- became a flashpoint on Parliament Hill this year. Prime Minister Stephen Harper said it was un-Canadian for a woman to wear the veil during her citizenship ceremony. But one Canadian woman watched this debate from a unique perspective -- because she fought for the right to wear the veil in open court for five years during her sexual assault trial, taking the battle all the way to the Supreme Court. Known only by her initials N.S., her identity is still protected by a publication ban. But the current controversy prompted N.S., a mother of four, to speak out for the first time ever. N.S. talks to Mark Kelley about why she fought for right to the veil, offering some surprising insight into the woman behind the veil.
