Canada's Shame : Illiteracy Cover Image E-video E-video

Canada's Shame : Illiteracy

Summary: Canada is considered one of the world' s leading countries, but our hidden shame is the 42% of our population who are illiterate. Illiteracy means many are living on the edge of poverty, unable to get ahead. With numerous roadblocks in our present federal and provincial system, what is the future for Canadians who cannot read and write? The program profiles Linda Richardson, an illiterate woman living in Saskatchewan, and examines the challenges and opportunities faced by Canada' s illiterate population. It also compares Canada to Sweden in their different approaches to literacy.
