Rejected by his mother, who mysteriously keeps to her room; abandoned by the older brother he adores; and ignored by his father, whose obsession with the family's disintegration prevents him from taking action; Hooker is more and more separated from reality. Left to himself, he broods on the events of the summer, misinterprets them, and takes terrifying steps to end the confusion.
